Preliminary conference programme

Scientific part, 21-23 May 2018 (Final programme will be ready by November 30, 2017)

• Day 1: 1-2 keynote speaker(s) and sessions devoted to biodiversity issues and its loss, emphasizing new threats and opportunities; and to overexploitation of natural resources and living systems.
• Day 2: 2-4 keynote speakers and sessions devoted to ecological complexity and non-equilibrium thermodynamics; to ecosystem evolution, functioning and resilience; to ecosystem services, including their typology and quantification of their potential, demands and real flows; and to integration of ecosystem protection and sustainable use of their services.
• Day 3: 1 – 2 keynote speakers and sessions devoted to nature conservation policies, system-ecological and participatory approaches; and to socio-ecological systems and indicators of their sustainability.

Preliminary post-conference excursion

24-25 May 2018

• Day 1:  The field excursion by bus and walks will start at 8.30 on May 24, 2018 and will take the whole day. We will start in Primeval Forest Badínsky prales National Nature Reserve and from there we will shift to Michalková, to visit an organic sheep farm. After that we will stop at Protected Landscape Poľana Biosphere Reserve to see the southernmost natural spruce forest in Slovakia and historical landscape structures of Hriňovsko. Return to Banská Bystrica between 19.00 – 20.00.
• Day 2: The field excursion by bus and walks will start at 8.30 on May 25, 2018 and will take the whole day. Alternative 1 (more demanding route): by bus to Vyšné Revúce in Veľká Fatra National Park and walk around Čierny kameň National Nature Reserve. Alternative 2 (easier route): Visit to Trangoška in Nízke Tatry National Park and walk from Kosodrevina to Štefánička challet. Return to Banská Bystrica between 18.00 – 19.00.
