About the faculty

Education in Banska Bystrica has a long tradition and dates back to the 13th century.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica was established in 1995.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences has a long tradition in preparing future teachers for primary, secondary and higher education in the field of natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Geography), Mathematics, Environmental Science and Computer Science. Nowadays, the faculty also offers non-teaching study. 

The basic mission of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Matej Bel University is to work in science, education and culture. The faculty provides a modern and friendly study environment necessary for students, teachers and scientists.

System of the study

The faculty offers higher education at all three levels of study – Bachelor (3 years), Master (2 years) and Ph.D. (3-4 years), in daily and external form. The standard length of the bachelor study is three years, the Master's degree is two years. The duration of the doctoral study in full-time form depends on the study programmes. The faculty offers teaching and non-teaching study programmes at the following faculty departments:

Graduates on the labour market
