MONITORING AND IMPROVEMENT OF PROTECTION OF HABITATS AND SPECIES OF COMMUNITY INTEREST IN THE NATURA 2000 NETWORK IN SLOVAKIA

Abstract
Authors prepared the information regarding 169 new sites of community importance (SCIs) in the Slovak Republic, the process of the preparation, negotiation with stakeholders and present the map and the list of the newly approved protected sites. The total area of new SCIs is 31 656 hectares. In addition in the article there is actual information regarding the results of monitoring of habitats and species of Community interest. Since the year 2013 complex systematic monitoring started and more than 300 experts collected the field data on more than 10 000 monitoring plots. All data collected assess the conservation status on locality level and were synthesized into the overview on national level.
