APPLICATION OF INQUIRY-BASED METHODS IN TEACHING GEOGRAPH
Abstract:
Inquiry-Based Science Education comprises a distinctive approach to teaching using coherent strategy of directing learning activities of a pupil. It is not a narrowly specified learning method, but a goal-directed process of formulating problems, critical experimenting, considering of alternatives, planned investigation and verification, drawing conclusions, searching information, creating models of actions which are studied, discussions with others and formulating coherent arguments. This study characterises learning methods which Inquiry-Based Science Education prefers and introduces basic identifying levels of learners´ inquiry. Possibilities of an appropriate application of elements of inquiry-based teaching in Geography subject are shown on examples of models of inquiry-based Geography lessons using computer-supported Science laboratory.
