Abstract:
The study provides a historical-geographical analysis of the history and development of the already extinct mining in the valley of Borovský potok. At the same time, it describes its impacts in the present country at the end of the valley. The valley of the Borovský stream drains the western part of the southern slopes of the Ďumbier Low Tatras mountains. Mining focused mainly on gold mining developed in the examined valley from the second half of the 16th century until the 18th century, when it gradually disappeared. In the first half of the 20th century, antimony mining was established on these deposits, in the Močiar locality. The modern mine almost completely covered the traces of historic mining. During the historical-geographical research of old mining in the valley of Borovský potok, we managed to identify the oldest Slovak-sounding toponym naming Prašivá and also the valley itself.
