Abstract:
Extensive and diverse information are available about our entire planet for current geography research, that are collected by satellites orbiting the Earth since 1972. This series of millions of satellite images, almost five decades long, allows us to explore global changes and apply the results in various areas such as the agricultu-re, cartography, geology, forestry or regional planning. It is an invaluable source of information, but unfortunately only little used in contemporary geography rese-arch or education in Slovakia. In this paper, we will present a platform and a simple procedure for searching and obtaining satellite images, which every student of geo-graphy should be able to repeat. As such, we would like to contribute to the popula-rization of satellite data of our planet and make them more accessible for various geographical and interdisciplinary projects.
