ANALÝZA POVODNÍ A PROTIPOVODŇOVÁ OCHRANA NA VODNÝCH TOKOV V OBCI TAJOV
FLOOD ANALYSIS AND FLOOD PREVENTION ON WATER STREAMS IN THE VILLAGE OF TAJOV
Abstract:
Floods represent one of the major environmental hazards, especially challenging is flash flooding in small highland catchments. Based on climatic scenarios, storm events are likely to increase in intensity and magnitude in the future years. Small highland catchments in Slovakia often have a complex physical setting and react quickly on local storm events. However, long-term hydrological observations are lacking, therefore an assessment of flood risk in these areas represents a complicated task. Flood prevention measures in small catchments hit by floods are often taken to increase channel capacity and conveyance as in the case of streams in Tajov, Central Slovakia, presented in this paper. Hydrological situation including extreme discharges since 2002 is described. Flood mitigation project planned by the local authority is presented and authors views on its impact on the river system and some recommendations based on field monitoring of the project river sections are discussed.
