Abstract:
The development of industrial geography and its research objectives followed path of the development of industry as an economic sector. However, the fundamental development of the discipline starts up in the seventies of the 20th century. The first part of article is devoted to the development of changes in the research objectives in a historical perspective. In the second part, the article presents a brief overview of the research directions of industrial geography since the first theories of geographi-cal localization to the contemporary research focuses always on the spatial orga-nization of industry and industrial production networks and on the topic of economic, social and spatial implications of incoming Industry 4.0.
